"Strawberry Blush" Sheepskin Rug, Naturally-Tanned

$270.00

What I love about this sheepskin is that it's really more like a goat hide. Katahdin sheep are hair sheep that naturally shed their wool, so their hides can turn out more smooth like goat hides than thick and wooly like sheep. This is one of those hides. It's mostly cream-colored but there's a just a hint of strawberry blush to it. It's smooth, soft, and sophisticated. I love how, the closer you look at every hide, the more you realize how unique each and every animal really is.

These hides are vegetable tanned by the amazing folks at Living Sky Tannery in Idaho, using gentle and environmentally friendly practices. They're 100% grassfed and finished, locally-raised (by me!) and locally-tanned without the use of harsh chemicals. I especially love to give them as extra-special baby gifts and wedding gifts.

I know every one of my sheep. It's not easy to raise them for meat, and I always feel grief and immense gratitude when they're processed. To me, preserving their hides is the ultimate way to honor the whole life of each unique individual animal. Thank you for being a part of that
